Government has released K1million for the rehabilitation of the Lukangaba Bridge in Mansa district, which has been submerged due to heavy rainfall.
This came to light when the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit – DMMU, National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe and Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Dr Felix Phiri did an on spot check on the bridge.
Mr.Kabwe said the Zambia National Service had already conducted an assessment to ascertain the required response. He added that Government through the Road Development Agency will also embark on the construction of a road in Chief Kalaba’s chiefdom to ease the transport challenge.
Mr. Kabwe stressed that the Government of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu does not want to leave anyone behind in his developmental agenda. And Dr Phiri called on the people of Kalaba Chiefdom to collaborate with the government in its endeavour to bring development to its people.
And Chief Kalaba has thanked His Excellency the President for delivering on his election campaign promises of taking development to all parts of the country, without leaving anyone behind.
Chief Kalaba said Government should go ahead and put up a bridge but that it should also construct a tarred road in his Chiefdom. He has also appealed to the Government to construct a secondary School in his chiefdom, lamenting that out of the 288 Chiefdoms, Kalaba Chiefdom was the only one with no secondary school.
He said this when DMMU National Coordinator and Luapula Province Permanent Secretary paid on Saturday, 9th March.
