Permanent Secretary for Administration in the Office of the Vice President, Lillian M Kapusana has emphasised that  there is a need for a unified approach to food and nutrition interventions in Zambia.

Speaking at a meeting with Food and Nutrition Commission Desk Officers in Lusaka today, Mrs. Kapusana stressed that coordination is crucial to making a meaningful impact.

“The solutions are with you,” Kapusana said, urging participants to take ownership of their roles in addressing the country’s nutrition challenges.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to reducing stunting levels from 32 percent to 15 percent by 2030, emphasising that this goal can only be achieved through a multi-sectorial approach.

The Permanent Secretary expressed concern that nutrition is often misunderstood as an issue confined to specific sectors.

“When you say nutrition, half the room will have excuses… It’s not just about women and children, it’s about a healthy and productive Zambia,” she said.

Mrs. Kapusana called for increased awareness and appreciation of the importance of nutrition, citing its impact on the country’s economic productivity and debt repayment.

The meeting which aimed to strengthen coordination, prioritise actions, and document success stories to inform future interventions brought together desk officers to discuss challenges, share experiences, and identify practical solutions to support food and nutrition goals in Zambia.

Mrs. Kapusana encouraged participants to speak openly, assuring them that their input is vital to driving progress.

“Your role is valued and central to achieving our national food and nutrition goals,” Kapusana said, reaffirming the Office of the Vice President’s commitment to supporting their efforts.
