About Office of The Vice President

The mandate of the Office of the Vice President as stipulated in the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 is to perform the functions that are assigned to the Vice President, by the President and to perform the executive functions during the period specified in the Constitution. The Office of the Vice President derives its Statutory functions from Government Gazette Notice No. 1123 of 2021.

Mission

To facilitate Parliamentary Business, National Guidance, Disaster Management and Resettlement Services for accountability, social transformation and improved livelihoods.

Core Values

In pursuit of its Vision, staff under the Office of the Vice President shall be guided by the following six core values: Integrity, Accountability, Transparency, Equity, Confidentiality and Loyalty.

Specific Functions

Specific functions are provided for under the Office of the Vice President Portfolio in Government Gazette Notice No. 1123 of 2021. They are stipulated as:

  • Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit;
  • Honours and Awards;
  • National Values, Principles and Ethics;
  • National Guidance;
  • Parliamentary Business; 
  • Resettlement; and
  • The Office also oversees the multi-sectoral response to Food and Nutrition as provided through the Act. No. 3 of 2020.
